Project Facts

This modern and efficient space has the unique construction style of inclusiveness and diversity of the office space, for the promotion of collaboration between all staff members. The creation of a motivating and inspiring environment was the goal for the relocation of IDEAL. Furthermore, the company can focus on employee experience to create a corporate atmosphere that can stimulate their sense of belonging.

After carefully measuring the volume of the building and structure analysis, we ultimately decided to use the digging method. Frist, we determined the functional requirements to determine the size and orientation of the space additions; combined with the shape and scale of the space, we were then able to determine the range to dig underground. Then, we repeatedly built model comparisons to adjust the final layout of the plane. On this basis, working with details of implementation from structural engineers, we ultimately achieved the specific location and depth of the dig space. To ensure that digging underground will be feasible for the construction of the additional level, it leaves us with a height of only 4 meters of space. Using this number, we built four split-level elevations, creating new levels of the indoor interior.

The low walls, stone strips, stands, water elements, hanging staircases, and covered bridges served as the connective tissue binding together the spaces between departments, connecting one department with another. These spaces—both connected and divided by bridges, corridors, and walls—intersperse and overlap with one another, joining with and permeating one another across various shapes and levels, coming together to create a shared office environment where people connect, spaces overlap, and enclosures combine.

Addition to the conventional floor-to-ceiling windows, we are also able to construct high-side windows and skylights. The five skylights greatly increase the lighting effects in the interior.

We proposed in the beginning of the conceptual design to save energy, environmental friendly, and aim for LEED certification as a low-carbon transformation from the old building. Through a combination of design and technology, we seek to create a comprehensive and truly green office environment. This was also one of the reasons why we choose the old factory to re-develop and utilize the waste. Green construction is made to be educational, rather than to show off, thus, moderate technologies and practices are critical.

This way, not only do we be declare the success of LEED Gold certification after the relocation, the company has been unanimously approved by internal staff and Xicheng District’s leaders, as Xinhua 1949 creative industry park’s example model and high light.
